Man stabs wife, mother-in-law
A man stabbed his wife and mother-in-law over family dispute at Basil village in Bhaluka upazila of the district on Sunday night.
The victims Sonia Akhtar, 20, and her mother Marzia Akhtar, 35.
Quoting family and local sources, police said Alamgir Hossain, 25, son of Abdul Quddus of Shaldia village in Purbadha upazila of Netrakona district, married Sonia three years ago.
Following family feud, she had been staying at her parents' house for around six months, they said.
Alamgir went to his in-laws house on Sunday evening to take Sonia back home. As Sonia refused to go with Alamgir, an altercation started between them around 8:00pm.
At one stage, Alamgir started stabbing Sonia. Hearing Sonia's screams, her mother rushed to the spot and tried to save her daughter, but Alamgir stabbed his mother-in-law also, leaving them critically injured, Mamun-ur-Rashid, officer-in-charge of (OC) of Baluka Police Station.
Hearing the news, neighbours rushed to the spot and caught Alamgir while he was trying to flee the scene. Later, he was handed over to police.
The victims were admitted to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, police said.
Police later produced the arrestee in a Mymensingh court that sent him to jail.
