A man was killed today in a road accident while he was being chased by members of Border Guard Bangladesh in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur.

The deceased was identified as Md Asaduzzaman Sabu Mia (37) from Ramkrishnapur village in Ghoraghat upazila in the district.

BGB members claimed the man was a suspected drug dealer.

Jesmin Begum, Sabu's wife, however, said her husband was a fish trader. She demanded justice for her husband's death, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

"BGB members in Hakimpur said Sabu was a drug peddler and that 18 bottles of Phensidyl were seized from him. Sabu was going to Ghoraghat from Hakimpur on his motorbike when the accident happened," said Ferdous Wahid, officer-in-charge of Hakimpur Police Station.

"The BGB members took position at the Boaldar area as they had information. After Sabu arrived at Boaldar village, he was asked to stop, but he did not and sped away. Later, BGB member Md Khalid started chasing him on a motorbike.

"At one point of the chase, Sabu lost control of his bike and hit a tree which left him critically injured. He was declared dead after he was taken to Hakimpur Upazila Health Complex. Khalid was also injured during the chase," the OC added.
