Major (retd) Sinha killing: Probe committee to seek more time to complete investigation
The probe committee formed by the home ministry after the murder of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan will seek additional time to complete the investigation of the case.
This is the third extension of its deadline.
The committee will file an application for additional time as its members were yet to record the statement of the key accused, suspended Teknaf OC Pradeep Kumar Das, our correspondent reports quoting Mohmmad Mizanur Rahman, additional commissioner of Chattogram division and also the head of the probe committee.
The four-member committee held a meeting today from dawn to dusk at Hilldown Circuit House and decided unanimously to file the application, he said.
"To prepare the final report we have to talk with suspended OC Pradeep," he added.
Apart from the statement of Pradeep, Mizanur said they have already completed all other tasks to prepare the report.
"We have recorded the statement of 67 people out 68," he said, adding that they are now verifying and analysing those statements.
The home ministry's Public Security Division had formed the committee on August 2 to probe the murder and recommend ways to stop recurrence of such incidents.
Other members of the committee are Lt Col SM Sazzad Hossain representing the Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh Army, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police (Chattogram range) Zakir Hossain Khan and Cox's Bazar Additional District Magistrate Shahjahan Ali.
The committee was asked to submit its report within seven working days of its formation on August 2.
Sinha (36) had been making travel documentaries for a YouTube channel called "Just Go". On July 31, he was returning to Cox's Bazar from Teknaf when his car was stopped at Shaplapur on Marine Drive and he was killed by police fire.
