Major (retd) Sinha killing: Prime accused Liaqat gives confessional statement

Suspended inspector Liaqat Ali, prime accused in Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case, gave his confessional statement before a Cox's Bazar court today.

Judge Tamanna Farah of Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-4 in Cox's Bazar recorded the statement under section 164 of code of criminal procedure over nearly five hours, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Khairul Islam of Rab told reporters at the court premise.

Khairul Islam, also the investigation officer of the murder case, said Liaqat was produced before the court today after he expressed interest to give his confessional statement to court while he was being interrogated on remand. 

However, the investigation officer did not say what information the accused gave during interrogation.

Liaqat was produced before the court around 11:45am and taken to Cox's Bazar jail this afternoon, reports our Cox's Bazar correspondent from the spot.

Earlier, three members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) gave confessional statements before the same court.

They are: Assistant Sub-inspector Md Shahjahan and constables Razib and Md Abdullah. They were members of APBn-16.

On Friday, a Cox's Bazar court placed suspended Teknaf OC Pradeep Kumar and two other police officers on a three-day remand each in the case.

The other two are former inspector and in-charge of Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre Liaqat Ali and former sub-inspector of Teknaf Police Station Nandadulal Rakshit.

This is the third remand for the three key accused.
