Mahmudur’s HC bail stayed till Oct 30

The Supreme Court today stayed until October 30 a High Court order that had granted bail to detained acting editor of The Daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman in a case filed for alleged attempt to abduct and kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order in response to a government petition seeking a stay on the High Court order.

Mahmudur Rahman cannot get released from jail till October 30 following the Supreme Court order.

The High Court on September 7 granted bail to Mahmudur Rahman in the case clearing the way for his release from jail, court sources said.

Mahmudur, in detention since April 2013, was shown arrested in several cases and got bail in all of them.
