Madrasa teacher killed by night guard

A madrasa superintendent was killed by the night guard of the same institution allegedly over a previous feud in Shayamnagar upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased, Babul Akhter, 46, son of Sheikh Ansar Uddin of Sirajpur village, was the superintendent of Nurnagar Mahila Dakhil Madrasa.

Quoting locals and witnesses, police said Babul came under attack while he was returning home from the madrasa at around 2:30pm.

Md Kalam Gazi, 35, a night guard of the madrasa, also son of Nur Mohammad Gazi of the village, waylaid Babul in front of the madrasa, hacked him with a machete and fled the scene. Babul died on the spot.

Abdul Jabbar, assistant superintendent of the madrasa, said there had been a conflict between Babul and Kalam over appointing Kalam as a night guard.

Earlier, Babul appointed Kalam as a peon of the madrasa. After a few days, he recruited his brother-in-law to the post and forced Kalam to work as a night guard.

Being informed, Police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

We are conducting drives to arrest Kalam, the SI added.
