Lost kid finally gets shelter

Seven-year-old Omar Faruk, a lost and distressed boy, finally got a shelter at Joypurhat Children's Family on July 11, thanks to a timely initiative taken by a police officer.

Alamgir Hossian, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shajahanpur Police Station, took it as an obligation to stand by the distressed kid after taking him under his personal care for nearly three weeks.

Police said an auto-rickshaw driver left Faruk in front of main gate of Shajahanpur Police Station on June 20.

Seeing the boy crying, Sub-inspector Khokon Kundu of the police station took him to the OC's room, who kept the boy under his custody and took the responsibility to provide a shelter for him.

The boy could say only about his mentally challenged mother, who went missing while begging in the area a few months ago.

Later, he had served at a tea-stall owned by one Belal Hossain in Tengamagur bus stand area in exchange of two meals in a day.

OC Alamgir Hossian, who has recently been transferred to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in the capital, is scheduled to join his duty within the next 2/3 days.
