Lightning kills 5 in Pabna, Kushtia

Five people were killed by lightning in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna and in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on Tuesday.

Our Pabna correspondent reported that two minor boys were killed and two others sustained injuries by lightning at Rooppur village under Ishwardi upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased are Siam, 10, son of Rezaul Karim, and Sabuj, 11, son of Sri Swapan Kumar.

Victims' family sources said four kids were struck by lighting while they were playing around 6:30pm. Siam and Sabuj died while two others sustained injuries.

Injured kids--Nipa and Pranto, aged about 10, is undergoing treatment at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex. 

Away in Kushtia, three people were killed and another was injured in separate incidents of lightning in Daulatpur upazila on Tuesday night, reports our correspondent.

The deceased were identified as Naznin Khatun, 25, of Mallikpur village, Hazera Khatun, 23, of Lakhikhola, and Tutul Islam, 30, of Joybhog village in the upazila.

A thunderbolt hit Naznin while she was washing kitchen utensils at her house around 9:00pm. She died on the spot.

Hazera and her husband Shahidul Islam were struck by lighting at a field adjacent to their house around 9:20pm. Hazera died instantly while Shahidul was taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital.

In another incident, a thunderbolt hit Tutul when he was listening to music over earphone in front of his house during a storm around 9:30pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
