Launch service on Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes resumes

Launch service on Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes resumed this morning, 24 hours after suspension due to bad weather.

The service resumed around 8:00am when the weather became better, said Faridul Islam, assistant director (traffic) at Aricha zone office of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).

Launch movement on the two routes was suspended from 8:00am yesterday to avoid any untoward incident on the Padma river, he told our Manikganj correspondent.

However, ferry operations remained normal, he said.

A total of 34 launches -- 18 between Paturia and Daulatdia and 16 between Aricha and Kazirhat -- usually run on these two routes.
