Latif Seminary centenary celebration begins

Marking the 100th founding anniversary of Patuakhali Latif Municipal Seminary, a famous non-government secondary level educational institution, a two-day celebration programme began yesterday.

Former and incumbent students of the institution gathered at the school ground in the morning while the town wore a festive look on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner Shamimul Haq Siddiqee hoisted national flag as the chief guest while Patuakhali Awami League secretary Khan Mosarref Hossain and chairman of the school managing committee Dr Shafiqul Islam were present as special guests.

At least 100 pigeons were released at the beginning of the programme. Later, a colourful procession was also brought out in the town.

The institution started on January 1 in 1916 with only 16 students, and has around 750 students now.
