Jubo League man, motorbike mechanic murdered
A local Jubo League activist was beaten to death at Chand Kashimpur village in Begumganj upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Md Nipu, 20, son of Md Alam Mistri of the village.
Quoting the victim's father, Sub-Inspector Jalal of Begumganj Model Police Station said Nipu was a supporter of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
He recently joined Gopalpur union Jubo League, which angered local Islami Chhatra Shibir men.
When Nipu was going to watch a friendly cricket match on Khurshida Girls' High School premises yesterday afternoon, Shibir activists Sabuj, Babu, Rana, Riaz, Yakub and Humayun beat him mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to Noakhali General Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead, said the SI.
Md Tarek, convener of Noakhali district unit of Jubo League, blamed Shibir men for the murder.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle mechanic was shot dead in Sharifpur union under the same upazila on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Farooque, 27, son of Nurul Amin of Bepari Bari of the area.
Police said when Farooque along with his brother Milon was returning home from his motorcycle workshop at Chowmuhani Purbo Bazar around 11:30pm, a gang of 4/5 waylaid their motorbike near Kamal Chairman Bridge in the union and took away mobile phones and cash from them.
They also opened fire, leaving Farooque dead on the spot and Milon seriously injured.
The injured was rushed to the hospital, said Jashim Uddin, officer-in-charge of the police station.
