JS body for hiring domestic resources for rail projects

Discouraging hiring foreign companies or individuals as consultants for various rail projects, a parliamentary body today recommended encouraging the selection of qualified local companies or individuals.

The parliamentary standing committee on railway ministry came up with the recommendation at its meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Awami League MP and chairman of the parliamentary watchdog ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury presided over the meeting.

Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan and committee members Md Shafiqul Azam Khan, Gazi Mohammad Shah Nawaz and Nadira Yasmin Jolly, among others, attended the meeting.

Different issues -- including action taken against the leaseholder for violating the condition of parking in front of Chattogram Railway Station, the participation of the MPs of the standing committee in the inauguration programme of different development projects and recovering of illegally occupied railway lands in Natore -- were also discussed in the meeting.

The meeting also recommended the transport of passengers in compliance with the health rules as the number of Covid-19 infected people has increased.
