JMB gives death threat to Panchagarh PP
Jama'atul Mujahideen, Bangladesh (JMB) yesterday issued a death threat through a letter to Aminur Rahman, public prosecutor (PP) of Panchagarh, who has been conducting the case filed for killing of a priest in Debiganj upazila under Panchagarh district on February 21.
The letter, with JMB written at the bottom, threatened to bid Aminur farewell from earth for ever.
Aminur Rahman filed a General Diary (GD) with Panchagarh Police Station the same afternoon. The PP said JMB threatened to kill him as he was conducting the sensational priest killing case.
Contacted, Mominul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchagarh Police Station, told this correspondent that they will investigate the matter.
Criminals slit the throat of Jogeswar Dasadhikari, 50, a priest of Shri Shri Sonto Gaurio Temple at Debiganj's Sonapota, on February 21. Two devotees were injured as the criminals fired shots and exploded homemade bombs while fleeing.
A day later, police arrested three suspects -- Khalilur Rahman, Jahangir Hossain and Babul Hossain -- and produced them before a court, which sent them on 15 days' remand.
Khalilur, 55, of Bhauaganj village under Debiganj upazila, was sent to jail yesterday.
Based on information gleaned from them, police conducted raids on February 25 and arrested the three 'key suspects,' including Alamgir Hossain, 35, son ofz Rafiqul lslam of Kamar Para; Ramzan Ali, 22, son of late Abul Khair of Kilganj Masjid Para; and Hares Ali, 35, son of late Mozammel Huque of Kalirdanga Shothapara village of the same upazila.
Police also seized a Japanese 9mm pistol, a US-made pistol of 7.65 bore, three cocktails, five bullets, three magazines, three knives and a blood-stained machete.
Later, they were produced before a court, which placed them on 15 days' remand.
The court sent Alamgir Hossain, 35, to jail on Tuesday. He gave a confessional statement under Section 164 at the court regarding his involvement in the priest killing.
