Idol vandalised at temple

Criminals vandalised an idol at a temple in Shukhanpukur area under Gabtoli upazila of the district early Friday.

A gang entered Malipara Durga Temple at Lathiganj Bazar in the area at midnight and damaged the idol of goddess Laxmi, said Pormot Mali, president of the temple.

The damaged idol was later found in a pond near the temple, said locals and devotees.

Pranbandhu Debnath, president of the upazila Puja Udjapon committee, demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the criminals.

Police are raiding different areas to arrest the culprits, said Shaheed Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Gabtoli Model Police Station.
