Human animal conflict: Tourist dies after being trampled by elephant in Rangamati

A tourist died after being trampled by an elephant in Rangamati's Kaptai area this morning.

The deceased, Abhishek Paul (21), was a student of Bangladesh University of Textiles, said Md Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kaptai Police Station.

The incident took place on Kaptai-Asambosti road around 9:00am when Abhishek along with his friends was going to Rangamati town from Kaptai, the OC said.

Abhishek was critically injured by one of the two elephants which were on the road, Md Rafiquzamman Shah, divisional forest officer of Chittagong Hill Tracts (south division) said quoting one of the victim's friends.

He was rushed to Kaptai Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the OC added.

Yesterday, a female worker of a rubber garden died after being injured by an elephant at Aziznagar in Bandarban's Lama upazila.
