HC verdict on Minni’s bail plea tomorrow
The High Court will deliver a verdict tomorrow on the bail petition filed by Aysha Siddika Minni in a case filed over the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman fixed the date after concluding hearing on a rule issued by this court August 20 over the issue on.
During hearing, Minni’s lawyer Advocate Z Khan Panna prayed to the court for granting bail to 19-year-old Minni. She will not leave the country and will not interrupt the investigation of the case if she is granted bail, the lawyer said.
Deputy Attorney General Sarowar Hossain Bappi opposed the bail petition saying that Minni had talked to Nayan Bond, the main accused of the case, over mobile phone before and after the killing of Rifat Sharif.
She was involved in the planning of killing Rifat Sharif and therefore she may not be granted bail at this stage of the case, the DAG said.
Senior Advocate Monsurul Hoque Chowdhury as an Amicus Curie (friend of court) placed his expert opinion before the court saying that Minni may be granted bail as she will not leave the country and she is a 19-year-old woman.
The HC on August 20 issued the rule asking the government to explain within a week why Minni should not be granted bail in the case.
Police arrested Minni after a daylong interrogation on July 16. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day. Three days later, a Barguna court recorded her statement.
Rifat Sharif, 25, an internet service provider, was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of her college in Barguna town on June 26.
In footage of the incident that went viral on social media, Minni was seen screaming and trying to save her husband from the attackers.
Rifat’s father filed the murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against 12 people on the day of the incident. The prime accused in the case, Nayan Bond, was killed in a “gunfight” with police on July 2.
