'Golaidanga battle day' observed

Freedom fighters of Manikganj observed the 45th anniversary of the historic 'Golaidanga battle day' yesterday.

At least 82 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 10 people martyred in the battle at Golaidanga under Singair upazila of Manikganj on October 29, 1971.

Thirty-three freedom fighters led by Tobarak Hossain Ludu, Lokman Hossain, Jahidur Rahman, Obaidul Islam Yakub, Abdul Jalil Khan, AKM Miraj Uddin and Monsur Alam Khan took part in the battle with the Pakistani soldiers.

Manikganj district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad arranged day-long programmes on the Golaidanga Muktijoddha Smriti College premises.

Commander of the unit Tobarak Hossain Ludu presided over the discussion.
