Bangladesh is a focus country for the US Government's key development efforts on global health, US Ambassador to Dhaka Marcia Bernicat said today.

"…So we count on icddr'b's research and innovation," she said during a visit to the icddr'b centre in the capital city's Mohakhali area.

During her day-long visit, icddr'b scientists briefed her about the institution and its work on cholera and vaccine studies, tuberculosis, its surveillance of communicable diseases and approaches in developing public health interventions, says a press statement.

"I am profoundly impressed to see the progress and the impact this organisation has made and continues to make in global public health for more than 50 years," Bernicat said.

We all have an important role to play in developing and scaling up public health solutions for the most vulnerable in this world."

icddr,b's Executive Director Professor John D Clemens thanked the US ambassador for her country's support throughout its journey of more than 50 years.

US donors have contributed more than $300 million to icddr,b since 1995, Clemens said.
