Girl saved from early marriage

A girl was saved from early marriage at Kamardiyar village in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday.

Mahmuda Sultana, 17, daughter of Abdur Rashid of Kamardiyar village, was going to be married with Sirajul Islam, 20, son of Akkas Ali of Lenguria village in the upazila.

Being informed, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Nairuzzaman rushed to the spot and foiled the marriage.

The UNO also sentenced the bridegroom to 15 days' imprisonment and fined the father of the bride Tk 1000.
