Girl raped, 1 held

Police on Saturday night arrested a youth in connection with a case for raping a minor girl in Jashore town same day.

The arrestee is Rafiqul Islam, 22, of Rail Gate Pashchimpara area of the town.

Meanwhile, medical examination of the six-years-old victim was conducted at Jashore General Hospital yesterday.

Quoting the case statement, Sub Inspector (SI) of Kotwali Police Station Nurjahan Bagum, also investigating officer of the case, said Rafiqul lured the girl and took her to a newly constructed building in Rail Gate area on Saturday afternoon and raped her.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the victim, but the culprit managed to flee the scene, the SI added.

Police detained Rafiqul after victim's mother lodged a complaint with Kotwali Police Station the same evening.

Away in Rangpur, a court here yesterday sent a man to jail after police produced him before it in connection with a case filed under Pornography Control Act.

Earlier on Saturday, police arrested Nazmul Hossain Nayem, 26, from Rangpur's Pirganj upazila, following a case filed by the 24-year-old victim under Pornography Control Act with Tajhat Police Station on June 26.

Police said Nayem was in a relationship with the victim girl. On February 16, Nayem took the girl to Tajhat area in Rangpur city and raped her there.

He also videoed the incident in his mobile phone and had been blackmailing the girl since then.
