Gazipur RMG factory fire under control

The fire that broke out in a ready-made garment factory in Chandra Palli Bidyut area of Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur was brought under control this afternoon after thirteen hours of frantic efforts.

Apurba Bal, the station officer of Kaliakoir fire service station, said the fire broke out on the second floor of a five-storey building of Tropical Knitting Factory of the 'Mondal Group' in Chandra Palli Bidyut area in the midnight and soon spread to the other floors.

On information, 13 firefighting units from Gazipur, Joydebpur, Mirzapur, Savar EPZ and Kaliakoir fire stations rushed to the spot and were trying to bring the blaze under control till 10:45am when the report was filed.

Machinery, threads, cloths and other valuables were damaged in the fire, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting the official.

It could not be ascertained yet what caused the fire, Apurba said.

Several cracks have been developed in the building following the fire incident, according to TV report.

Gazipur district administration formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident. The committee was asked to submit the report within 15 days.
