Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed murder: Fugitive Mukti surrenders before court after 6 years
A court in Tangail today rejected bail of Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, former mayor of Tangail municipality and an accused, in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.
After remaining absconding for six years, Mukti surrendered before Additional First District and Session Judge's court in Tangail and prayed for bail through his lawyer in the morning.
After hearing, Judge of the court Sikandar Julkarnine denied his bail and sent him to jail around 3:00pm, our local correspondent reports.
Mukti is son of Ataur Rahman Khan, incumbent Awami League lawmaker of Tangail-3 (Ghatail) constituency, and younger brother of former lawmaker of the same constituency Amanur Rahman Khan Rana.
Monirul Islam Khan, additional public prosecutor in the district, said Mukti along with his father and brother went to the court around 11:00am, surrendered to the court and sought bail.
According to the murder case, the bullet-hit body of freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader of Tangail, was found near his house on January 18, 2013. Police found evidence of involvement of Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, the then lawmaker of Tangail-3 constituency, and his three younger brothers including Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, the then mayor of Tangail municipality, in the murder.
Rana surrendered before a lower court in September 18, 2018 and was sent to jail in connection with the case. Later, he secured bail from a higher court.
Two other accused -- Jahidur Rahman Khan Kakon and Saniyat Khan Bappa -- still remain absconding.
Both are Rana's younger brothers.
