Four of a family die of electrocution

Four members of a family were electrocuted at Ramdigha village under Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj district at around 9:30am yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Jagadish Sarkar, 70, his son Ranjit Sarkar, 45, daughter-in-law Rita Sarkar, 35, and granddaughter Sonali Sarkar, 10, of the village.

Locals said Ronjit came in contact with a live electric wire that snapped when a branch of a tree fell on him while he was having breakfast in the courtyard of his house.

The other three also got electrocuted while trying to save Ranjit.

Mazharul Hoque, officer-in-charge of Modhunagar Police Station, said police recovered the bodies and sent them to a hospital morgue for autopsy.
