Firecrackers, arms seized

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a foreign-made pistol, 648 firecrackers and 10 kilograms of cumin seed from Lalmatia village in Gomostapur upazila of the district on Wednesday night.

A team of the border guards, acting on a tip-off, raided the village around 10:00pm, and challenged a smuggler while he was moving suspiciously.

Sensing the presence of the BGB team, the man fled the scene, leaving a sack in an abandoned condition.

BGB later seized the pistol, firecrackers and the cumin seeds wrapped in the sack, Lt Col Zahid Hasan said.
