Meanwhile, evicted Santals in Madarpur and Joypurpara areas are passing their days with deep concern about their rehabilitation, food and employment.

On November 6, a triangular clash ensued among the indigenous people, workers of Rangpur Sugar Mills and police following an attempt by the workers of the sugar mill to evict the Santals from the mill area.

On that day, police reportedly opened fire and lobbed teargas shells during the clash at Sahebganj sugarcane farm, leaving two Santals dead and several others injured.
