Elderly woman burnt to death

A 60-year-old woman was burned to death as a fire broke out at her house in Pirojpur town yesterday.

The deceased, Farida Begum, 60, was daughter of late Hemayet Uddin of Baiddyapara area in the town.

Deceased's younger brother Ziaul Ahsan said Farida had been suffering from serious mental depression since long and remained single throughout the life.

Neighbours found her thatched room burning and doused the blaze from outside by throwing water around 12:00noon.

Later, they entered her room by breaking open the door and found Farida dead inside.

Sub-inspector Mohammad Asaduzzaman of Sadar Police Station said the fire might have originated from the kerosene stove which Farida used for cooking her food.
