Ekram murder: SC stays Minar’s bail

The Supreme Court today stayed a High Court verdict that granted bail to Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, the prime accused in Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque killing case, till December 4.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the stay order following a government petition moved by Additional Attorney General Murad Reza seeking stay on the HC verdict.

The judge also sent the stay petition to the full bench of the apex court for its hearing on December 4.

Ekram, 45, also the president of Awami League upazila unit, was shot and burnt to death in his car in Feni's Academy area on May 20, 2014.

Rezaul Haque Jasim, victim's brother, filed a murder case with Feni Model Police Station on the same day, accusing Mahtab and 30 to 35 anonymous people.

Following a bail petition filed by Mahtab Chowdhury, the HC on November 24 granted him permanent bail in the case.
