Drug smuggler jailed
A Panchagarh court on Monday sentenced a drug smuggler to seven years' rigorous imprisonment. The convict is Abdul Jalil, 25, son of late Altaf Hossain of Jatanpukuri village in Sadar upazila. The court also fined him Tk 1,000, in default, he is to suffer another year in jail. Senior Judge of Special Tribunal M A Nur handed down the verdict in presence of the convict at around 4:30pm. According to prosecution, a patrol team Border Guard Bagladesh (BGB) arrested Abdul Jalil on November 13, 2013 on Mirgarh border near Pillar No 421with smuggled Indian medicines. Company Commander Havildar Mozammel Haque filed a case against Jalil with Panchagarh Police Station the same day. After investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against Jalil to the court on December 31, 2014. After examining witnesses and record of the case, the judge handed down the verdict.
