Drug peddler gets life

A court here yesterday sentenced a drug peddler to life imprisonment.

The lifer is Swapan Datta, 35, son of Kartik Datta of Mulgram village in Pirojpur Sadar upazila.

District and Sessions Judge Md Golam Kibria also fined him Tk 20,000. In default, he is to suffer another six months in jail. 

Court sources said Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Swapan from Laxmankathi village in Nesarabad upazila with 247 bottles of phensidyl on November 21 in 2012.

Later, a case was filed, accusing Swapan in this connection, said the sources.

After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found him guilty and pronounced the verdict.
