Doctor jailed

A doctor was jailed for running his medical centre illegally in Aditmari upazila of the district on Monday.

The convict is Dr Omar Farooque, sub-assistant community medical officer at Aditmari Upazila Health Complex, and son of Lebu Miah of Sirajganj.

Police said Omar Farooque has been running 'Tanisha Medical Centre' in commercial basis without valid documents near the health complex for long.

On information, Executive Magistrate Akterun Nesa raided the medical centre and arrested Omar Farooque.

The arrestee was later produced before a court, led by the magistrate, which sentenced him to one year's imprisonment, said Horeshwar Roy, officer-in-charge of Aditmari Police Station.
