Dense fog disrupts ferry service

Paturia-Daulatdia ferry service resumed after five hours yesterday morning. The service was disrupted from 4:00am due to dense fog.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) sources said six ferries -- Shah Ali, Bhasha Shaheed Barkat, Birshreshtha Motiur Rahman, Rajanigandha, Hasnahena and Kabery -- with hundreds of passengers were anchored in the middle of the Padma River.

Mohiuddin Rasel, manager (Commerce) of BIWTC at Aricha, said the ferry service had to be stopped to avert accident as no signal light or beacon could be seen from 4:00am due to dense fog. The service resumed at 9:00am, he added.
