Demand of tuition fee from students on scholarship questioned

Star Online Report

The High Court today questioned the legality of demanding monthly tuition fee from the students who got scholarship.
The court issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why appropriate legal action against the school authorities who are demanding monthly tuition fees from the students who got scholarships should not be taken.

The HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo came up with the rule on a suomoto (of its own move) move following a news report published in the daily Ittefaq on August 3.

According to the report, some private school including Viqarunnisa Noon School and College are collecting the fees from the students violating the relevant rules.

As per the rules, the authorities concerned cannot collect any fee from the students who got scholarships.

Amir Hossain, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, placed the report before the HC bench for necessary order.
