Death threat to 8 Kalapara municipality staff

Eight staff of Kalapara municipality received death threat from one Mohiuddin, who identified himself as a leader of the outlawed Purbo Bangla Sarbahara Party.

Mohiuddin called them on cellphone and demanded money. If they failed to pay, they would be killed along with their family members, he threatened.

Those who received the death threat are secretary of the municipality Md Masum Billah,  assistant engineer Moniruzzaman, head assistant Pijush Kanti Mojumder, administrative officer Kabyalal Chakraborty, tax officer Rakibul Islam, tax collector Saifur Rahman, assistant tax collector Jugal Chandra Kundo, and work assistant Tayeb Hasan Uddin Bipu.

Two general diaries (GD) in this regard were filed with the Kalapara Police Station on Monday night.

The complainants said Mohiuddin called them by turn from cellphone number 01747623863 and demanded money, without mentioning any figure. He said he was out of the country and needed the money for treatment of his men.

The staff of the municipality and also other officers, both government and non-government, are now living in fear.

GM Shah Newaz, officer-in-charge of Kalapara Police Station, said they had confirmed that the phone calls came from Kamrangir Char in Dhaka. There is nothing to be afraid of, he added.
