Death row convict Nur Hossain acquitted in extortion case

Death row convict in Narayanganj seven-murder case Nur Hossain and his five accomplices were acquitted in an extortion case.

Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Sabina Yasmin pronounced the verdict in the presence of two accused this afternoon, said Narayanganj Additional Public Prosecutor Jasmeen Ahmed.

The five others are: Nur Hossain's nephew Shahjalal Badal, Shahjahan, Mortuza Zaman Chachil, Ali Mohammad and Bulbul.

According to the case statement, Nur Hossain demanded Tk 5 lakh from a businessman named Iqbal Hossain of Siddhirganj on May 30, 2013.

The court acquitted Nur Hossain and his five associates as there was no evidence in the case, the additional public prosecutor said.

After announcement of the verdict, the court also held hearing in six more cases against Nur Hossain, including arms, drugs and extortion cases, he added.
