CU ‘BCL men’ halt shuttle train service after clash
Classes and examinations have been suspended at Chittagong University after Bangladesh Chhatra League men allegedly halted shuttle train and staff bus services following a factional clash last night.
A clash broke out between two factions of BCL—Bijoy Group and CFC group—last night over establishing supremacy on the campus which left five people injured, reports our CU correspondent.
Following the incident, a group of BCL men allegedly cut off the hose pipe of the shuttle train and also punctured the tyres of staff bus, barring any student or teacher from coming to the campus.
A leader of Bijoy Group, Tarikul Islam, who was the joint general secretary of former BCL committee, told The Daily Star that aggrieved BCL men who were injured during the clash blocked the shuttle train and bus service.
The loco master of the shuttle train, Khurshid Alam, was also picked up earlier in the day by a group of ‘BCL men’ but he was released around 11:00am, the correspondent said.
Owing to this, no students or teachers could reach the campus from the city and all classes have been suspended for the day, the correspondent reports quoting Acting Proctor Pranab Mitra Chowdhury.
