Criminals kill health worker, loot house

Criminals killed a housewife and took away cash and gold ornaments in Dakkhin Kacharipara area of the district town on Saturday night.

The dead, Aleya Begum, 45, wife of Sarwar Hossain, manager of Sonali Bank's Sreepur Kumaria Bazar branch in Sadar upazila, was a health worker of Melandah Upazila Health Complex.

Police and family sources said Aleya along with her daughter Mimi Akhter, 12, lived in the area while her husband along with his second wife Nazma Begum reside in Nandina area of Sadar upazila.

Aleya and her daughter went to sleep in separate rooms after having meal around 10:30pm.

A gang entered the house, breaking open the lock of the collapsible gate and strangled Aleya.

The criminals then looted Tk 2.5 lakh and 25 tolas of gold ornaments, said the victim's husband.

On information, police rushed to the spot yesterday morning, recovered the body and sent it to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The law enforcers are raiding different areas to arrest the culprits, said police.
