‘Criminal’ killed in Narsingdi ‘gunfight’

A listed “criminal” was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in Madhabdi municipality area of Narsingdi early today.

The deceased was identified as Mithun, 30, son of Jakir Hossain of the area.

Tipped off that the top terror Mithun and his associates would gather at Katapara, a team of Detective Branch of police raided the area around 2:00am, said Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of DB police.

The alleged criminals opened fire when the DB team reached there, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that triggered the “gunfight”, he said.

Mithun suffered bullet wound during the “skirmish”. He was taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the OC said.

Police arrested four associates of Mithun and recovered two foreign pistols and a shutter gun from the spot.

The OC said Mithun was wanted in 12 cases including those of rape, murder and extortion.
