The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested an employee of the Chief Judicial Magistrate's (CJM) court in Chuadanga on charge of extortion and intimidation on Tuesday night.

DB officials said they detained Sahajada Selim alias Prince, 33, a process server of the court, as CJM ABM Mahmudul Hasan handed him over to them on charge of extorting money from another employee of the same court, by threatening with a firearm.

"Process server Prince called me and took me to the rooftop of the court building at about 11:30am during office hour on Monday. Showing me a pistol, he demanded Tk 1 lakh," goes the general dairy (GD) filed by Abdullah Al Mamun, a computer operator of the CJM's court, with Chuadanga Sadar Police Station on Tuesday.

"Prince introduced himself as a top man of an outlawed party and threatened to kill me by the cadres of the outfit if the money is not given. He also snatched Tk 20,000 from my pocket. To save my life, I paid the rest money through a bKash number used by Prince on Tuesday," it adds.

Mamun informed CJM ABM Mahmudul Hasan, who asked him to file a GD.

Later, a copy of the GD was given to the DB that found the matter to be true after investigation.

A DB team arrested Prince from the court office at about 8:30pm on Tuesday and handed him over to Chuadanga Sadar Police Station on the night, said Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court sent Prince to jail yesterday noon after police produced him before the court.

Prince hails from Khalishakundi village in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district.
