Couples crowd to adopt newborn
About 30 couples, most of them childless, applied till yesterday for adopting the newborn following her recovery from a roadside bush in Dinajpur municipality on Sunday.
The one-day-old infant is now undergoing treatment at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital (DjMCH).
Police said one Ahsan Habib Arnob of Patuapara area in the town heard a baby weeping in shivering cold near a pond on Sunday morning.
Arnob immediately wrapped the infant with warm clothes and informed the police before taking the baby girl to DjMCH.
Indoor Medical Officer Halima Sarkar and Bilkis Ara, in-charge of Department of Paediatrics, who are taking care of the infant, said the baby is doing well.
Meanwhile, many childless couples, who showed interest in adopting the ill fated infant, visited the girl at the hospital with new clothes and food since Sunday afternoon.
Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Hamidul Alam said they have already received nearly 30 applications from interested couples to adopt the girl, adding that police are yet to decide about her adoption.
