Corruption case: HC questions lower court order of bail for suspended DIG Bazlur Rashid

Star Online Report

The High Court today questioned the legality of a lower court order that granted bail to suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid, in connection with a case filed for amassing Tk 3.08 crore beyond known sources of income.

The court issued a rule asking Bazlur Rashid and the state to explain in 10 days why the subordinate court's order that granted bail to him should not be scrapped.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel also set January 18 next year for hearing the rule.

The bench came up with the order and rule following a revision petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) challenging the lower court order of bail.

ACC's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said that the HC issued the rule following his arguments that Bazlur Rashid has suppressed the information of HC's refusal to grant him bail for two times in the same case to the  lower court in securing bail.

On October 29, a Dhaka court granted bail to Bazlur Rashid in connection with the case filed for amassing Tk 3.08 crore beyond known sources of income.
