Cop among 3 killed in Cumilla road crash
Three people including a police officer were killed and two injured in an accident on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Cumilla early morning.
The deceased were identified as Assistant Sub-inspector of Miabazar highway police outpost Akter Hossain, 33, covered van driver Fahad, 25, and its helper Sumon, 24.
Abul Kalam Azad, in-charge of the police outpost, said a team of highway police along with a wrecker reached Sayedpur area in Chauddagram upazila to rescue a covered van which was hit by another vehicle.
But all of a sudden, another covered van appeared the scene and hit the stationed covered van, which broke down after the accident, when the police team with the help of its driver, helper was conducting the rescue operation, the police official said.
Five people including the ASI were injured during the accident, Abul Kalam Azad said.
The injured were whisked-off to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared three of them dead, added the police official.
Among the deceased, ASI Akter Hossain hailed from of Shilmuri Barura of Cumilla, Fahad from Senbag of Noakhali and Sumon, 24, from Nondigram Chandragonj of Laxmipur.
