'Comrade Farhad's dream was to make new society'
Speakers at a memorial meeting in Panchagarh said Comrade Mohammad Farhad worked for a revolution to make a new society.
The discussion was held at Sakoya Bazar in Boda upazila on Sunday to mark the 29th death anniversary of Comrade Farhad, also former general secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), and a former member of the parliament.
Prof MM Akash of Dhaka University attended the programme as chief guest while upazila unit CPB President Dipak Kumar Dey was in the chair.
Akash said the revolution is not for bloodshed but for creating a new society where people can live free from repression, oppression and disparity.
The communist movement of Bangladesh would not be divided as much as it is now if he was still alive, said the professor.
CPB district unit General Secretary Asraful Islam also spoke at the programme.
Earlier on the day, Comrade Farhad Community Hospital chalked out different programmes in the upazila headquarters on the occasion.
Born in Dinajpur in 1938, Comrade Farhad, also a freedom fighter, died in 1987 in Moscow at the age of 49. He played a vital role in different movements of the country, including the Language Movement and the Liberation War.
