Clash over land hurts 16 Shantals in Gaibandha
Sixteen people of Shantal community were injured today in a clash with police following a land dispute in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha.
Nine policemen were also injured from the arrows hurled by the indigenous people.
The incident occurred when Rangpur Sugar Mill authorities went to its sugarcane farm at Shahebganj and found that a group from the Shantal community occupied the land, our Gaibandha correspondent reports quoting Subrata Kumar Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station.
Informed, police rushed to the spot but the indigenous people attacked them with bows and arrows.
In reply, police also fired rubber bullets and teargas shells on the Shantals leaving 16 injured, the OC said.
The injured are being treated at Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.
