Child marriage bid foiled

A schoolgirl was saved from child marriage at Shabgram village in Sadar upazila of the district on Monday. Tenth grader Khadija Ahkter, 14, daughter of Shajahan Pramanik of the village, was going to be married with Sohag Mia, 19, son of Abdul Pramanik of the same village, in the evening, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahana Akhter Jahan. Being informed, the UNO, who led a mobile court, rushed to the spot and foiled the marriage. The court also sentenced fathers of the bride and bridegroom to seven days' imprisonment and fined them Tk 1,000 each, said the UNO.
