Case filed over college student’s rape in Ctg

Star Online Report

An 18-year old college student was allegedly gang-raped in a flat at Chattogtam city's Akbar Shah area. During the incident, the rapists apparently played loud music to cover up the victim's screams for help.

The incident happened on December 11 evening at a building in East Firoj Shah Colony, said police.

Victim's mother filed a rape case with Akbar Shah Police Station on December 12.

Accused Rakibul Hasan Ariyan (23) and Mehedi Hasan Ashik Rabbani Babu (23) are on the run after the incident.

Quoting case statement, Jahir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akbar Shah Police Station, told The Daily Star, "The victim and Ariyan were in a relationship but due to family issues she stopped communication with the youth."

"On December 11 evening, the victim left her house at Bishwa Colony for GEC area to buy a book but Ariyan called the girl saying he was critically injured following a motorbike accident -- asking her to visit him," said the OC.

"Getting the phone call, the victim rushed to the spot where the two youths got hold of her and did not let her leave. When the girl pleaded to let her go, they played loud music to cover up her cries and raped her," said the OC.

Later, the victim disclosed the incident to her family members and was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital's (CMCH) one-stop crisis centre.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) (West) Faruq Ul Haque of CMP said police have already visited the spot and are trying to arrest the culprits.
