Cancel hike in bus fare: Consumers Association of Bangladesh
The Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) today demanded cancellation of the government's decision to increase bus fares by 60 percent.
The hike would increase cost of living and affect the country's economy, said a press release issued by the CAB today.
People from different quarters have already expressed disappointment over the decision saying it benefitted only the bus owners, the release adds.
It also said that there was always a risk of commuters getting infected on the buses as the health guidelines issued to curb the spread of Covid-19 were hard to follow.
Besides, there is no guarantee of maintaining three-feet physical distance inside the buses.
Apart from this, the authorities have to ensure passengers are wearing masks and using hand sanitisers, and also not allow those showing fever or cold and cough or Covid-19 like symptoms.
Additionally, it is also impossible to run buses at half-capacity in such a populated country.
Road transport services, including buses and minibuses, resumed yesterday after being suspended for more than two months in a bid to slow the transmission of Covid-19.
