Bullet from own rifle kills cop

A police constable was killed by a bullet fired accidentally from his own rifle at Kotchandpur Police Station in Kotchandpur upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased is Solaiman Hossain, 26, son of Modasser Mollah of Daitala village in Jessore Sadar upazila. He joined the police station on February 29 this year.

Officer-in-Charge Ahmed Kabir of the police station said, Solaiman was on duty in front of the PS around 2:00pm. 

All on a sudden, a sound of firing was heard and instantly he was rushed to the upazila health complex with bullet injuries. He later died there. 

Assistant Superintendent of Police Ajbahar Ali Sheikh said they are investigating the incident.
