BSF kills 2 Bangladeshis in Thakurgaon border area

Two Bangladeshi nationals were shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Betna border in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon this morning.

The deceased are Najir Uddin (30) of Bokua union in Haripur upazila and Rabiul Islam (30) of Boro Polashbari union in Baliadangi upazila of the district.

Quoting locals, Aurangazeb, officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station, said BSF members opened fire when Najir and Rabiulalong with their fellows entered India illegally through the pillar no. 367/2 around 6:30am, leaving them injured.

Others in the groupmanaged to bring them back, the OC said.

Rabiul died when he was being taken to his village while Najir succumbed to the injuries on the way to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.

Contacted, Lt Col Shahidul Islam, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh battalion-50, said they have invited BSF for a commander-level flag meeting.

A protest letter will be issued in this regard, he said.
