Bring college boy Al-Amin's killers to book
Locals, relatives and fellow students took out a procession in the town yesterday, demanding immediate arrest and punishment of those who killed college student Al-Amin.
Al-Amin, 20, son of Ketab Ali of Char Patuli area and second-year student of Computer Engineering at Haji Abul Hossain Institute of Technology in the town, was beaten up mercilessly by a gang of extortionists of Majhipara area on May 22, as he failed to satisfy them.
He succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on May 26.
Victim's father lodged a murder case with Tangail Model Police Station on May 28, accusing seven named and three unnamed people.
The identified accused are, Faruk, Sumon Mia, Michael Sumon, Al-Amin, Koyel, Sharif and Shakil.
Hundreds of townspeople joined the procession and paraded the main streets of the town. They later formed a human chain at Nirala Intersection.
Addressing a rally at the venue, the speakers threatened to launch a tougher agitation programme if the killers were not arrested immediately.
Among others, Al-Amin's father Ketab Ali, Tangail Press Club General Secretary Zafar Ahmed and Councillor of Ward no 11 Salahuddin Haidar addressed the rally.
On May 22, a gang picked up Al-Amin from near his house while he was playing cricket around 5:00pm. The gang took Al-Amin near a rice mill at Majhipara and thrashed him with a hammer, leaving him critically injured.
Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot, rescued Al-Amin and took him to Tangail Medical College Hospital. On May 26, he was shifted to DMCH where he died the same night.
Contacted, Mustafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Tangail Model Police Station, said they are conducting drives to arrest the accused.
