Boy drowns in pond

A minor boy drowned in a pond at Gopalpur village in Khanpur union under Sherpur upazila of the district yesterday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Nahid Hossain, 5, son of Mohammad Sohel Rana of the village.

Police, quoting the boy's relatives, said Nahid drowned in the pond beside his house while he was playing with his friends.

Hearing the screams of his playmates, Nahid's relatives rescued him and rushed him to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
